Refreshed Tata Nano to be launched in India by mid 2013

Barely six months after Tata Motors launched the Special Edition version of the Nano hatchback, the car maker is all set to give the struggling small car yet another refresh. Mid 2013 is when the refreshed Nano will make an appearance in India. The 2013 Nano Refresh will be the third big refresh for the small car in under 4 years of its launch. The first big refresh for the Nano came in the fag end of 2011, when Tata Motors launched the V2 version of the car, dubbed the 2012 Nano. After that refresh, the second refresh for the Nano came in the form of the Special Edition version that was launched late last year.

Both the 2012 Nano and the Nano Special Edition variants added a host of features to the small car while the 2012 version also brought many mechanical changes to the table. It remains to be seen what exactly Tata adds to the 2013 refresh of the Nano. Notable additions could include a stylistic makeover and an open-able hatchback. While talk of an 800cc petrol engine for the Nano has been doing the rounds, middle 2013 could be a tad too early for Tata to launch a brand new engine on the Nano. Currently, the Nano is powered by a 623cc twin cylinder engine that is both peppy and highly fuel efficient.

While Tata does have a CNG-petrol variant of the Nano waiting in the wings, the car maker hasn’t yet announced a launch date for this variant. That said, the Nano CNG could be launched soon as it has been over a year since the variant promising low running costs was first showcased. The Nano Diesel continues to be be tested by Tata Motors, and this car’s launch, like that of the Nano CNG’s remains in the pipeline with no clear time frame for the launch being given by the car maker. Tata Motors will be betting on new variants of the Nano to boost sales of the world’s least priced car.
